Four first edition volumes of studies of the seats and views of England and Wales, bound in three volumes, and illustrated throughout with engraved plates by John Preston Neale.

Present here are both volumes of 'Jones' Views of the Seats, Mansions, Castles, Etc. of Noblemen and Gentlemen, in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland', each with both an engraved and letterpress title page.

The first of these volumes is illustrated with 104 plates. 

The second volume is illustrated with 89 plates.

Volume III contains is 'Wales Illustrated, in a Series of Views', and 'South Wales Illustrated in a Series of Views', illustrated with an engraved title page to each volume, and a further 112 plates.

Collated, complete.

These volumes are beautifully illustrated with engraved views by English architectural and landscape draughtsman John Preston Neale, who was best known for these works.

Neale's illustration are accompanied with descriptive passages.

Rebacked in half calf bindings, with back strips laid down, and with endpapers renewed. With the bookplate of John Galliers to front pastedown.

Condition

Rebacked, in half calf bindings, with back strips laid down, retaining the original cloth covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Handling marks to cloth, with fading of cloth to board heads. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean, with the odd spot to text leaf perimeters, and more significant spotting to plate perimeters. Tide marks to lower half of each plate.
