The first edition of this work, complete in three volumes.

A classic historical fiction novel by Sir Walter Scott, part of his popular 'Waverley' series.

This novel is set just after the English Civil War in 1651, inspired by the legend of the Good Devil of Woodstock. Mainly this novel focuses on the escape of Charles II, and his eventual return to England in 1660.

Walter Scott is best known for his historical novels and poems, including 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe', and 'The Lady of the Lake'. 'The Lay of the Last Minstrel' was the first poem of his that brought him into the spotlight of the public's eye, establishing him as one of the most popular writers of his time.

Rebacked, in half calf bindings with back strip laid down, and retaining original boards. Endpapers renewed.
