One map plate and one monochrome engraved plate to 'Volume VIII'. Collated, complete. 

The work of Charles Rollin, a French historian and educator. The series provides historical insight into the ancient world, discussing ancient Greece, Egypt and other important ancient civilisations. This once famous historical study has been identified in recent times as uncritical and somewhat inaccurate, but nonetheless an important work which instructed numerous generations in ancient history.

Condition

Bound in half calf. Externally very smart with only slight marks to the boards, and minimal wear to the extremities and joints. Bookplate of John Burton Philips' to the front pastedowns. Internally firmly bound with generally bright pages, with occasional offsetting and occasional spotting, heaviest to the fronts and rears and to the versos of the plates.
