Volume I examines land birds, and volume II water birds.
Illustrated throughout both volumes with engraved vignettes by Bewick.
This work is admired for the beauty of Bewick's wood-engravings, which are widely considered his finest work, and among the finest in that medium.
Rebacked, retaining the original endpapers.
With the bookplate of James Salter F.R.S. to the front pastedown.

Condition
Rebacked, in half calf bindings with marbled paper covered boards. Back strips laid down and original boards restored. Rubbing to joints and back strip head and tail. Small loss of calf to volume II back strip tail. Rubbing to board centres. Hinges reinforced with paper. Bookplate to volume II front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Spotting to title pages. Pages otherwise bright, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout.
