The second novel of American author James Fenimore Cooper, known for his historical romances set in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. 'The Spy' was Cooper's first big success, commencing his reputation as an important and popular American writer.
'The Spy' takes place during the American Revolution, partly inspired by Cooper's family friend, the American statesman and abolitionist John Jay. Set during a time of uncertainty and mistrust, the novel centers on Harry Birch, a man who is suspected of being a spy.

Condition
Bound in half calf. Externally, worn, with the front board detached to volume I and II. The remaining boards and tender, and may detach with further handling. Lacking backstrip to all volumes, with just a small portion of the spine label remaining to volume III. Rubbing to the extremities and boards. Bookplate to front paste down. Endpapers are a little strained. Internally, otherwise firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd handling mark.
