Description

Leather Binding

Compiled by George Thomson (1757-1851), a collector of Scottish music. He was a friend of Robert Burns, best known for his 'Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs for the Voice'. His granddaughter, Catherine, would later wed Charles Dickens.

Containing verses by the likes of Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott, and Brinsley Sheridan, put to music by Pleyel, Haydn and Beethoven, amongst numerous others.

With an illustrated title page, a frontispiece portrait of Robert Burns and one plate besides.

Signed by the compiler George Thomson to the half title page. 

Six volumes bound as one.

Lacking a title page; with the half title only.

Condition

In a half crushed morocco binding. Externally a trifle worn, with rubbing to the extremities, joints and head and tail of the spine. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the binding exposed at the half title page. Pages are a touch age-toned and offset opposing the music.
