Very scarce work. Illustrated with one portrait to face page 161. Lacking three portraits. A collection of issues of the The Christian Guardian (and Church of England Magazine) from January to December 1825. With articles on a range of religious and moral issues, including: on Christmas amusements, on prayer, the neglect of public worship, the character of Judas, and New Years' meditations. With poetry, letters, and sermons throughout. This collection features memoirs of eight of the Reformers, being Calvin, Taussan, Olaus Petri, Pistorious, John a Lasco, Vergerious, Zegedine, and Peter Martyr. Lacking the front free endpapers and title page and pages 278 to 281.
Condition
Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light loss to the extremities. Cracks to the joints with minor loss to the head and tail, as well as the spine label. The odd small mark to the boards. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound with the front free endpapers, title page, and pages 278 to 281 lacking. Pages are bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Pencil marks and drawings to the pastedowns and the portrait plate, with the odd pencil mark through the text. Creases to pages 511 to 516 and the rear endpapers.
