    First Edition, Leather Binding

    The complete four volume first edition of this work, consisting of two historical novels, 'The Talisman' - set during the Third Crusade - and 'The Betrothed', set in the Welsh Marches in the twelfth century.

    'Tales of the Crusaders' is viewed as a subset series within Scott's Waverley novels, published between 1814 and 1832.
    As with the majority of Scott's early Waverley editions, Scott's name does not appear to the title page.

    In straight grain morocco bindings, with extensive gilt detailing to back strips.

    Bound without half titled. With two pages of advertisements to the rear of volume IV.

    Condition

    In straight grain morocco bindings, with extensive gilt detailing to back strips. Externally, lovely, with light rubbing to back strips and joints. Tail of volume II front joint, and tail of volume IV joints starting, with boards firmly held. Volume I hinges, volume III front hinge strained but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
