From the library of John Lort Stokes, with his ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Stokes was a Royal Navy officer who served onboard the HMS Beagle for seventeen years.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, worn, with some loss of leather to the spine and extremities, and rubbing. Minor bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Tears to the spine and joints. Light marks to the boards and spine. Joints and hinges are starting but firm. Label to the front paste down. Spots to the endpapers. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Gift inscription to the title page. Small patch of worming to the head of pages 635 to the rear paste down, with no loss of text.
