Four volumes of the poetical works of John Milton.
'Paradise Lost' is an epic blank verse poem, concerning the biblical Fall of Man, with the temptation of Adam and Even, and their subsequent expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The poem is considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written.
The sequel, 'Paradise Regain'd', is likewise a blank verse poem, though is much shorter than its predecessor, being described as a brief epic. This set also includes a volume of Milton's minor poems.
This set contains:
'Paradise Lost' Volumes I and II. Both volumes are illustrated with an engraved title, and six plates. The plates are dated 1822, whereas the typeset title is dated 1825.
'Paradise Regained', illustrated with an engraved title, and three plates. The plates are dated 1816, whereas the typeset title is dated 1823.
'Minor Poems', illustrated with an engraved title, and five plates. The plates are dated 1816, whereas the typeset title is dated 1823.
Collated, complete.

Condition
In a full calf binding. Externally, smart, with light rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spines. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with a few scattered spots.
