A translation of the work of Xenophon of Athens, a Greek military leader, philosopher, and historian elected as one of the leaders of the retreating Greek mercenaries, the Ten Thousand. An account of the expedition of the Ten Thousand, an army of Greek mercenaries hired by Cyrus the Younger to help him seize the throne of Persia from his brother, Artaxerxes II, in 401 BC. With notes and a detailed index. Translated by Edward Spelman, an English author and translator.

Condition

Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light loss to the extremities, predominantly the board tips. Light fading to the spine with the odd mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
