An English language edition published in Paris.

'Salmagundi' is a satirical periodical, mocking and ridiculing culture and politics in early nineteenth century New York City. The periodical was written under a variety of pseudonyms, and was written by Washington Irving, William Irving, and James Kirke Paulding.

It was in the November 11th issue in 1807 in which Washington Irving first used the name 'Gotham' for New York City.

Condition

In a quarter calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, rubbing has resulted in some loss of paper to the boards. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spines are a little faded. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spots.
