A four-volume set in full tree calf bindings with marbled end papers and edges.
Jean-François Regnard (1655-1709) was a dramatist who is considered to be one of the best comic poets of the seventeenth century. He is also famous for the travel diary he kept of a voyage in 1681, Voyage de Flandre et de Hollande, commencé le 26 avril 1681, in which he gives an account of his experiences in many European countries.
This complete four-volume set of the works of Regnard includes his most famous works such as Le Joueur, Le Distrait, Les Ménechmes, and Le Légataire universel, as well as a selection of his poetry, his ballet Le Carnaval de Venise and his opera Orphée aux Enfers. The fourth volume contains his travel works.
This set is scarce in this edition.
Condition
In full tree calf bindings. Externally, generally smart except for rubbing to the joints and extremities and pulled to the head of vol four. Small loss to the head of the backstrip to Volume I and a bump to the upper extremity of the rear board. Bump to the upper extremity of the front board of Volume II. Cracking to the head of the joints to Volume IV, causing a small loss and the backstrip to lift away from the spine. One of the contents pages is adhered to the rear free end paper to Volume III.
