Including his a selection of his correspondence, his speeches given in parliament as well as a number of essays on various subjects.
Notably, this work includes Burke's only philosophical work, 'A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful'. Also included is Burke's satirical work 'A Vindication of Natural Society', highlighting his ideas on moral stability and the importance of religious institutions.
Lacking the frontispiece to volume I.
Condition
Bound in the publisher's original quarter cloth with paper-covered boards. Vol VI has been rebacked, with the endpapers renewed. Externally, sound, with light soiling to boards, heavier to I, II and V. Rubbing to the extremities and joints, causing some tears to cloth. Lacking spine label to III and V, with ink notation to the spine. Partial loss to spine label of II and VI. Discolouration to spine labels. Vertical cracking to the backstrip of I and VIII. Small losses to cloth to the backstrip of I and III. Endpapers retained to all volumes apart from V. Hinges are holding generally firm. Ink notation to the front endpaper, with a bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with a few spots and handling marks. Lacking frontispiece.
