Goldsmith's history was first published in four volumes in 1771, and saw many single volume abridgements over the following year.
This work traces English history from the invasion of Caesar to the death of George II, to the 1822 Congress at Verona.
With contemporary owner's inscriptions to front and rear pastedowns, recto of front free endpaper, and title page. Many of the inscriptions appear to be in the hand of a child, depicting rabbits and horses.
Condition
In a full calf binding. Light rubbing to joints and board perimeters. Front hinge a touch strained, but firmly held. Endpapers removed. Extensive inscriptions to front and rear pastedowns, and to recto of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Contemporary inscriptions to title page. Pages age toned, with handling marks throughout, and the odd spot.
