Three volumes of this 'Mechanic's Magazine', later known as 'The Mechanic's Magazine, Museum, Register, Journal, and Gazette'.

An interesting snapshot of the scientific and technological developments of this period towards the end of the Industrial Revolution. Articles in this set include the advancements of steam carriages, improvements in ship building, Brunton's smoke consuming apparatus, waterproof cloth, Mr. Hawkin's plan for a tunnel under the Thames, Mr. Saul's revolving window, Christie's terrestrial globe, Babbage's machine for calculating and printing astronomical tables, and more.

This set contains Volumes I, II, and XII, for 1823, 1824, and 1830. Volume I contains Numbers 1 to 28, Volume II contains Numbers 29 to 56, Volume XII contains Numbers 316 to 342. 

Volume I is illustrated with an engraved title, and in-text illustrations throughout.

Volume II is illustrated with a colour frontispiece, and in-text illustrations throughout. 

Volume XII is illustrated with a frontispiece, one folding plate, and in-text illustrations throughout.

Condition

Volumes I and II are in the original paper covered boards, Volume XII is in the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed and edge worn, with small tears to the head and tail of the spines. Front joint of Volume XII is starting but firm, with a small amount of loss. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light marks to the boards and spines. Small tear to the head of the rear joints of Volumes II and XII. Faint tidemark to the tail of the boards of Volumes I and II. Tear to the spine of Volume XII. Front hinge of Volume XII is strained. Bookplate to the front paste downs of Volumes I and II. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with scattered spots.
