A translation of the work of Xenophon of Athens, a Greek military leader, philosopher, and historian elected as one of the leaders of the retreating Greek mercenaries, the Ten Thousand. This work provides account of the expedition of the Ten Thousand, an army of Greek mercenaries hired by Cyrus the Younger to help him seize the throne of Persia from his brother, Artaxerxes II, in 401 BC. With notes by Thomas Hutchinson, a British literary editor.

Condition

In the original half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and light tide marks to the page edges. Age toning to the endpapers with contemporary ink inscriptions to the front endpaper and pastedown.
