This fascinating and unusual work examines marriage rites across the globe, concluding that in comparison to in other lands, English women are treated favourably by their native marriage customs. The author identifies that 'the superior force of the male is rather muscular that internal'.

The author's only published work, this first edition was attributed to Lady Augusta Hamilton, speculated but not proved to be a pseudonym for painter and writer Olivia Serres, known as the imposter who claimed the title of Princess Olive of Cumberland.

Condition

In a half morocco binding with cloth to the boards, bound by Bayntun. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots.
