Discussing the origin and use of names, with general remarks upon those of the Normans, English, Scotch, Irish &c. With a section on the derivation of common English surnames and another on names from the several parts of the body and the "mischievous consequences of compounding them exemplified".
With three pages of advertisements. Following this is a 72-page block of blank leaves bound-in, presumably for the owner to take their own notes.

Bound in quarter morocco, with paper covered boards. Externally, smart, with marks and rubbing to the extremities. Bookplate of one Cornelius Walford and an additional smaller ex libris plate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional spots.
