'The Fortunes of Nigel' is one of Sir Walter Scott's popular historical novel. Set during the seventeenth century between 1623 and 1624, the novel follows the young nobleman, Nigel Olifaunt, Lord Glenvarloch, on his journey to London to request to the King that he repay his father's loan. Chaotic court life is presented whilst Olifaunt finds his place on earth, making enemies along the way.
Walter Scott is best known for his historical novels and poems, including 'Waverley', 'Ivanhoe', and 'The Lady of the Lake'.
Condition
In half calf. Externally generally smart with rubbing to the extremities and boards, resulting in slight loss to the leather. Bookplate to front paste down of volumes two and three. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright with scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few pages. Prior owner's ink inscription to half titles. Loss to extremity of half title to volume three.
