A first-hand narrative of the Jacobite rising written by James Johnstone, a Scottish officer who served as aide-de-camp to Prince Charles Edward Stuart. The work recounts the prince's landing, the march into England and the battles of Prestonpans, Falkirk and Culloden, interwoven with the author’s personal experiences and reflections.
Rebacked, retaining original endpapers. With the bookplate of Francis E. B. Witts to the rear pastedown.
With the bookplate of English writer and expert on country houses James Lees-Milne to the front pastedown. Lees-Milne worked for the National Trust from 1936 to 1973, and was an architectural historian, novelist and biographer. His memoirs remain in print to this day.
Condition
Rebacked, in a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards. Back strip laid down, retaining original endpapers. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplates to front and rear pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, but with spotting and instances of foxing throughout.
