Washington Irving was an American author, essayist and historian best known for his short stories. In the course of his career his works were published under various pseudonyms, the most famous being Geoffrey Crayon, under which he published The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. He made his literary debut in 1802 and moved to England in 1915 where he achieved international fame. He is considered America's first genuine internationally best-selling author.

Condition

Uniformly bound in half calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, generally smart with some light rubbing and bumping to all volumes. Scorch mark to head of Sketch Vol I. Spines slightly sunned to all volumes. Hinges strained to Conquest Vol II, Astonia Vol II, Sketch Vol I and II. Hinges Tender to Abbotsford, Salmagundi, Conquest Vol I and Tour on the Prairies. Joints starting but still reasonably firm to Abbotsford, Conquest Vol II, Sketch Vol I, Captain Vol II and Tour. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Pages generally bright with scattered spots to all volumes with heavier instances of spotting to some volumes.
