Illustrated with engravings from designs by English painter and portrait artist Richard Westall. With a vignette title page and five additional engraved plates to each volume. Collated, complete. 

'Don Quixote' is considered a founding work of Western literature and is often said to be the first modern novel. The plot centres around the adventures of a hidalgo from La Mancha, who sets out to revive chivalry and serve his nation under the name Don Quixote de la Mancha. Written by Miguel de Cervantes, this novel was originally published in two parts in 1605 and 1615.

Condition

Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, very smart, with really only mild rubbing to the extremities. Bookplate bearing 'Green Hammerton' to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with spots concentrated to the title pages, plates and leaves close to the plates.
