First published in 1757–1765, these volumes are a continuation of David Hume’s History of England. 

Tobias Smollett’s five-volume History of England from the Revolution to the Death of George II covers the period 1688–1760, tracing the reigns of William III, Anne, George I and George II with close attention to political conflict, party rivalry, war, diplomacy and finance.

Tobias Smollett (1721–1771) was a Scottish novelist, historian and satirist, best known for Roderick Random, Peregrine Pickle and Humphry Clinker.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally, smart. Slight cracking to joints. Bookplate of J. W. Bramston to front paste downs. Stamp of Walter R. Dolden to front free endpapers. Tide staining to endpapers. Very minor perforation to rear board of volume I. Offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, if slightly age toned. Slight offsetting to pages. The odd spot, heavier to first and last few leaves.
