Jane Porter was a historical novelist and dramatist, best known for her novel 'Thaddeus of Warsaw', alongside this work, 'Scottish Chiefs'.
First published in 1810, 'The Scottish Chiefs' is a an early example of historical fiction, with the enduring romantic tale remaining popular to this day. This epic tale tells the story of William Wallace's struggle for Scottish independence from English rule, with Porter incorporating many strong female characters, highlighting their important role in this battle.
Condition
Bound in full calf. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to joints and extremities. Slight loss to backstrip head and tail. Joints are cracking, mainly to volume I. Endpapers are renewed. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges are strained, but holding generally firm. Pages are age toned with scattered spotting throughout. Ink note to front blank. Worm holes to the first few pages of volume II, not affecting text.
