First published in 1732, this work is scarce in all editions.

A 'New Edition, to which is added Ramsay's collection of Scottish proverbs'.

Retaining half title.

A fantastic collection of proverbs and adages, alphabetically arranges, and including such gems as: 'If you have many irons in the fire, some will burn'; 'It is an ill procession that a devil holds the candle'; 'Prudent cruelty is better than foolish pity' and 'Beauty may have fair leaves, yet bitter fruit'.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper covered boards. Losses of paper towards back strip tail. Tide mark to front board head. Joints starting, with rear board firmly held, and front board tenderly held by two cords to the head only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with handling marks and light spotting throughout.
