'Somatopsychonoologia: Showing that the Proofs of Body Life and Mind Considered as Distinct Essences Cannot be Deduced from Physiology but Depend on a Distinct Sort of Evidence Being an Examination of the Controversy Concerning Life Carried on by MM. Laurence, Abernethy, Rennell, & Others'. Both of these articles bound together and taken from 'The Pamphleteer Vol. XXIV No. XLVIII. This is the second edition of this work.
and a separate volume featuring 'The Right and Practice of Impressment, as Concerning Great Britain and America, Considered', taken from Vol. XIV, No. XXVIII of 'The Pamphleteer'.
This set features three very scarce articles from 'The Pamphleteer'. One of the articles was written by Thomas Forster under the pen name of 'Philostratus', and discusses the ideas of Abernethy, Laurence and Rennell concerning the separation of the mind and body, and how the scientific concept of somatopsychology (the concept of the link between mind and body, linking psychology and medicine) disproves their ideas.
The other two articles discuss impressment, including the rights of Britain to conscript American born citizens, and the negative effects of forced conscription.
