Two works from celebrated Scottish novelist Sir Walter Scott.
The first of these works is the 1819 first edition, first issue of the third series of 'Tales of My Landlord', complete in four volumes. Todd & Bowden 135Aa. Lacking the advertisements and half titles.
This includes 'The Bride of Lammermoor', a historical novel set in south-east Scotland before the Act of Union, and 'A Legend of Montrose', a historical novel set in Scotland during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.
The second of these works is the second edition of 'Quentin Durward', complete in three volumes, and published in the same year as the first edition. Todd 167Aa. Lacking half titles.
This historical novel concerns a Scottish archer in the service of the French King Louis XI.
Uniformly bound in half calf.
Former owner's inscription to title page head of volume I of each work.
Condition
In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Gilt detailing to back strips. Back strip head of 'Durward' vol III has repaired tear. Joint heads of 'Durward' vol I, joint tails of vol II, and joint heads and tails of volume III starting, with boards firmly held. Front joint of 'Landlord' vols I, III and IV, and head of rear joints of these volumes starting, with boards firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages of 'Durward' clean and bright, with instances of spotting to 'Tales'. Inscription to title page head of volume I of each volume. Bound without half titles, and lacking advertisements to 'Landlord'.
