With the bookplate of Sir Robert Peel, Drayton Manor, a British M. P. who served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Drayton Manor was Peel's family home, the site of which now holds the Drayton Manor theme park.
The theological works of Isaac Barrow, an English Christian theologian and mathematician, known for his work developing calculus and properties of the tangent. Barrow became widely revered for his eloquent sermons, notably his 'Treatise on the Pope's Supremacy', which was regarded as one of the most important and controversial writings at the time.
This collection contains the following:
Volume I, containing 24 sermons. Illustrated with a frontispiece.
Volume II, containing 25 sermons.
Volume III, containing 28 sermons.
Volume IV, containing 26 sermons on the creed.
Volume V, containing sermons on the creed and expositions.
Volume VI, containing A Treatise on the Pope's Supremacy and a Discourse Concerning the Unity of the Church.
Condition
Uniformly bound in full calf. Endpapers and blank have been renewed. Externally, very good, with some rubbing to the joints and extremities. A few marks to boards and a little fading to the spines. Small tidemark to the front board of one volume. Bookplate to front paste down. Hinges are holding generally firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with the odd mark.
