1817 Defence of Economy Against the Right Hon. George Rose
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Very Scarce
The very scarce first separate edition of this work, first published in Volume X of 'The Pamphleteer'.
A treatise on economics by the leading and renowned figure Jeremy Bentham, written in reply to the ideas of George Rose.
This work was written in particular in reply to Rose's 1810 'Observations', in which he dismissed the concerns of the growth of government spending during the Pitt administrations since 1780. Liberal Bentham took umbrage with this, hence this critical reply.
Bentham is regarded as the founder of modern utilitarianism, an incredibly influential social reformer who advocated for the right to divorce, equal rights for women, and the separation of church and state.
