The second edition of this work, first published the year prior. Rebound in quarter calf, with endpapers renewed.
Seemingly aimed at a readership of educated young women, Marcet's work is organised as a dialogue of twenty-one conversations, steering the reader towards an appreciation of economics as a science.
At a time when economics was deemed to be the preserve of men, this work proved highly popular, undergoing numerous editions in quick succession, and helping to popularise the study of economics.
With four pages of advertisements to the rear.
With the inscription of Jemima Brisham 1818 to the title page head.
Macaulay wrote that "every girl who has read Mrs. Marcet's little dialogues on political economy could teach Montagu or Walpole many lessons in finance".
