1817 A Word for my Country; Or, An Address to the Parishioners of Crosstone, and All Whom it May Concern
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Very Scarce
A very scarce first edition from this prominent Anglican figure, a man who campaigned for all British Protestants to unite in a common missionary enterprise.
In this essay he calls upon English patriots to defend the country against 'the Jacobins', who are 'spreading their pernicious principles'.
His rousing statements include 'personal liberty is the first and most essential branch of civil liberty', and 'kill or be killed'. He commends the late William Pitt, and condemns the radicalism of the French Revolution, warning that it may shortly take place in England too if the people do not resist.
