A fascinating account by James Simpson of his 1815 visit to Flanders immediately after the battle of Waterloo.

Simpson was a Scottish advocate and author. Other notable work by Simpson includes ‘Paris after Waterloo’ (1853).

Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece depicting the scene of Waterloo. Collated, complete.

The Battle of Waterloo was fought between Anglo-allies (Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick, and the United Kingdom) led by the Duke of Wellington, and the French led by Napoleon Bonaparte. The conflict marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Small losses of calf to back strip head and tail, with light rubbing to boards. Joints starting, with boards firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Light offsetting to title page, with pages otherwise clean and bright.
