The first edition thus, being the first edition to be "modernised and much enlarged" by William Burney, a scarce expansion. This work was originally published as 'An Universal Dictionary of the Marine' in 1768.
An impressive dictionary for the marine, detailing the meanings of technical terms and phrases usually used within the Navy, alongside details on astronomy and navigation.
Illustrated with thirty-five plates, of which seven are folding.
Half-title is present.

Condition
In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed, heavier to the spine. Minor marks to the board. Small amount of loss to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots, including to the plates. Prior owner's ink inscription to the half-title.
