Bound in the publisher's boards, with one volume with a contemporary spine.
Consisting of:
'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, A Romaunt: and Other Poems', the tenth edition, containing Canto I, II and thirty additional poems.
'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. Canto the Third', the first edition, second issue.
'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. Canto the Fourth', the first edition, second issue.
Volume I contains 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, A Romaunt: and Other Poems' bound with 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. Canto the Third', while the second volume contains 'Canto the Fourth'.
Canto the Third and Fourth adhere to all issue points in Thomas Wise's bibliography. This includes the Canto III issue points of: the note of exclamation present on page 4 line 1, the uncorrected line to page 67, and the initial of the letter 'L' in 'Lettre' falling underneath the 'u' in 'celui' to the title page. Including the Canto IV issue points of: all footnotes called for on the correct pages, and p155-159 commencing with the words as stated. Canto the Third is bound without piii-iv. Flytitle and half title are present.
'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage' was the work that launched Lord Byron's glittering poetical career, causing him to become a celebrity overnight after the publication of the first two cantos.
Lord Byron is one of the most notorious figures of British history, causing scandals with his flamboyant personality of excesses, debts, love affairs, as well as the rumored affair with his half-sister. He was a romantic poet, with is prolific writings being loved in the two centuries since his death.
Condition
Bound in hardback boards in the publisher's style, with the original spine labels retained. Endpapers renewed. Externally, the front board to canto IV is detached but present, with the front endpaper and title page detached with the front board. Light rubbing to the extremities and a few light bumps. The odd mark. Spine labels retained, although they are a little discoloured and chipped. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with some light scattered spotting.
