Description

Early Edition, Leather Binding

The second edition, published very shortly after the first.

Complete in three volumes.

Bound without half-titles.

The first novel in Scott's 'Waverley' series.

'Waverley' was Scott's first adventure into historical literature, and has been widely acknowledged as one of the first pieces of historical fiction. The novel begins at the outset of the 1745 Jacobite Uprising, with the protagonist, Edward Waverley, joining the army, a romantic young man who finds himself in the midst of staunch loyalist supporters.

Sir Walter Scott is best known today for his novels and poetry, including 'Ivanhoe' and 'The Lady of the Lake'. He wrote a lot about his birthplace of Scotland, though with his experiments in historical fiction, he expanded to writing about various places in England and Europe.
