Volumes XIII and XIV of 'The British Classics' series, of a total of thirty-four. These volumes contain the complete two volumes of 'The Guardian'.
'The Guardian' was a short-lived newspaper that was published from 12th March 1713 to the 1st October 1713. The newspaper was founded by Richard Steele, and had contributions from his friend and colleague Joseph Addison. Other contributors include Thomas Tickell, Alexander Pope, and Ambrose Philips.
Illustrated with a frontispiece, engraved title, and four plates to each volume. Collated, complete.
Engraved title page to each volume is dated 1804, typeset title page dated 1814 to Volume I and 1815 to Volume II.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Lacking all but one of the spine labels. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spines are discoloured. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots, mostly to the plates.
