What Our Customers Say...
Description
Early Edition, Rebound, Very Scarce
The very scarce second edition of this work, first published in November 1802.
A fascinating publication of some of the prophecies and ideas of Joanna Southcott, a self-described prophetess from Devon, who announced herself as a 'Woman of the Apocalypse', as referenced in the book of Revelation. At the age of 64, Southcott claimed she was pregnant with the new Messiah, with her supporters numbering about 100,000 by 1814.
With a tipped in clipping referring to the symbolism of the 'Holy Thorn' between pages 4 and 5.
Beside a printed representation of a seal to page 92 is a wax example of that seal.
This second edition is extracted from a volume of pamphlets published by Southcott's frequent publisher, Marchant and Galabin.
With contemporary inscriptions and notations throughout.
Southcott's writings include discussion of the devil, occult sciences, and other prophecies.
Condition
Rebound in paper covered boards, with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with the odd spot and light handling marks.
