To the rear of volume V appears the first edition, third 'Sherwood, Neely and Jones' imprint, fifth issue overall (Viets IV) of John Polidori's 'Vampyre'.
With pages i-xvi reset and with twenty-three lines to each page, with 'lmost' to tail of page 36, and with no mention of Mary Godwin and Clair Clairmont to page xix.
With the original half title.
Polidori's important tale is viewed as establishing the vampire as a stock figure of gothic fiction, but authorship was initially erroneously attributed to Byron himself..

A first edition, later issue of the 1818 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, Canto the Fourth'. 10,000 copies of the first edition were produced, with their being five different issues within this print run.
The 1821 first edition, first issue of 'Marino Faliero, Doge of Venice'. First issue, with the Doge's speech on page 151 beginning "What crimes ?".
The 1821 first edition, first state of 'Sardanapalus, A Tragedy. The Two Foscari, a Tragedy. Cain, A Mystery'. With fly title reading 'Sardanapalus'.
Condition
In half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. A touch of rubbing to back strip heads and tails, otherwise externally excellent. Volume I, II, V hinges strained but firmly held. Front hinge of volumes III and VI strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Half titles lightly age toned. Small neatly repaired closed tear to fore edge of 'Vampyre' title page.
