Hume and Smollett's 'The History of England' uniformly bound in thirteen half morocco bindings.
David Hume originally published his 'The History of England' in six volumes from 1754 to 1763. He was one of the first historians to write more broadly, not just focusing on politics and royalty, but looking at literature and science as well. This work was a bestseller and make Hume very wealthy.
Hume's work was then continued by Tobias Smollett, who focused his research on the eighteenth century. Smollett was best known as an author, who's works, including 'The Adventures of Roderick Random', 'The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle', and 'The Expedition of Humphry Clinker', inspired the likes of Charles Dickens.
The first eight volumes of this set are the 1826 edition of Hume's work.

Also present is the 1812 five volume edition of Smollett's contribution.
