Uniformly bound in full calf, with decorative gilt to the spines.
With an engraving to each title page.
Volume First: Tragedies. Works include 'The Two Noble Kinsmen' by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher (before 1616), 'Don Sebastian' by John Dryden (1690) and 'Lady Jane Gray' by Nicholas Rowe (1715).
Volume Second: Tragedies. Works include 'The Revenge' by Edward Young (1721), 'King Charles I' by William Havard (1737) and 'Douglas' by John Home (1756).
Volume Third: Comedies. Works include 'Every Man in his Humour' by Ben Jonson (1598), The Spanish Friar by John Dryden (1681) and 'The Careless Husband' by Colley Cibber (1704).
Volume Fourth: Comedies. Works include 'The Hypocrite' by Cibber (1718), 'The Conscious Lovers' by Richard Steele (1721) and 'The Way to Keep Him' by Arthur Murphy (1761).
Condition
Uniformly bound in full calf, with decorative gilt to the spines. Externally, smart, with rubbing and marks to the extremities. Darkening to the calf and parts of leather to the spine heads of Vol 3 and Vol 4 coming away. Cracking to the joints of Vol 4. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spotting to the endpapers and offsetting to the verso of the half title pages resulting from illustrations to the title pages.
