What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Leather Binding, Limited Edition, Original Binding

The first edition, being the very scarce 'one volume' edition, published again in the same year as part one of a two volume set titled 'The History of London and Its Environs'.

Illustrated with twelve monochrome engraved plates. Collated, lacking the 'Plan of London', which is usual for this work.

A comprehensive study of London's history, from the landing of Julius Caesar to the start of the nineteenth century, covering the control of the Romans, Saxons, Danes, and Normans. Hunter passed away before the completion of this work, and the publisher Stockdale with the assistance of hacks completed the work for publication. This work was initially published in parts from 1796. With the list of subscribers to the start.

Contemporary full calf boards, re-backed in later calf.

Condition

Contemporary full calf boards, re-backed in later calf. Externally, marks, slight fading, rubbing to the boards, with wear to the extremities of the boards. Hinges cracked but remaining firm. Internally firmly bound with bright pages and the odd spot, heavier to the front and verso of plates.
