Description

Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

Great to see this in the original publishers' boards. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. A spurious reprint of the fourth edition. Watermark most visible to pages 2-3 'W Pickering and Co. 1816', title page states fourth edition was published in 1811. English Bards and Scotch Reviewers was first published anonymously in March 1809. It took a matter of months before Byron published an expanded edition with his name identified as the author. The opening of the poem parodies the first satire of Juvenal.
