What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

With a frontispiece and title vignette. A collection of private and open letters critical of the government of King George III from an anonymous polemicist, as well as other letters in-reply from people to whom Junius had written between 1769 and 1772. The pseudonym may have been chosen because the same author had already signed Lucius and Brutus to other works, and wished to exhaust the name of Lucius Junius Brutus, the Roman patriot who led the overthrow of the Roman monarchy. Claimed by some to be Philip Francis, an Irish-born British politician and pamphleteer, the true identity has never been formally verified.

Condition

Bound in full calf. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. A small crack to the front joint at the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the extremities with the previous owner's label to the front pastedown.
