The second edition, complete in two volumes. An additional supplementary volume, titled 'Anecdotes of the Manners and Customs of London from the Roman Invasion to the Year 1700' was also issued, but is very scarce.
Volume I illustrated with three plates, and volume II with ten hand-coloured dress plates, and twenty-nine plates. Collated, lacking only three plates.
This is a wide-ranging antiquarian survey that gathers together descriptions of London life, traditions, and popular culture, from fairs, taverns, and street entertainments to fashions, crime, and civic ceremonies.
Drawing on newspapers, pamphlets, and personal observation, Malcolm creates a vivid picture of the social fabric of Georgian London.
Rebacked, retaining the original endpapers.
Condition
Rebacked, in half calf bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Retaining original endpapers. A touch of fading to back strip, otherwise externally excellent. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with significant spotting throughout. Lacking three plates.
