Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I.

A collection of the poetry of the Scots poet Robert Burns.

Robert Burns was an influential Scottish poet of the eighteenth century. He was a pioneer of the Romantic movement, and has remained a significant cultural icon in Scotland.

His best known poem is 'Auld Land Syne', which is sung at Hogmanay.

A fifth volume was later issued.

With two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear of Volume IV.

With a half title to volumes I-III. Volume IV does not have a half title.

Also with an account of his life, a criticism of his writings, and some observations on the character and condition of the Scottish peasantry.

Condition

In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing. Rubbing to back strip tails. Front joint of volume I starting, with board a touch tender. Head of front hinge of volume II starting but firmly held. Rear hinge of volume I strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with only the odd handling mark. Light worming to tail of final forty pages of volume III, penetrating to the rear pastedown.
