Volume I contains a life of Smollet, a selection of his poems and plays, and 'Ferdinand Count Fathom'. Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece, and two hand-coloured plates.
Volume II contains Parts I and II of 'Peregrine Pickle'. Illustrated with four hand-coloured plates.
Volume III contains Parts III and IV of 'Peregrine Pickle'. Illustrated with two hand-coloured plates.
Volume IV contains 'Roderick Random'. Illustrated with six hand-coloured plates.
Volume V contains 'Sir Lancelot Greaves' and 'Humphrey Clinker'. Illustrated with eleven hand-coloured plates.

Condition
In a rebacked calf binding, bound by Zaehnsdorf. Externally, smart, with some light rubbing. Minor bumping to the extremities. Evidence of former wear to the backstrips prior to rebacking, including a small amount of loss to the head of the original spines of Volumes II, III, and V, and tail of the original spines of Volume I, IV, and V. Marginal chipping to the spine labels. A few light marks to the boards. Hinges of Volume I and front hinge of Volume I are starting but firm. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean, with the occasional spot.
