Illustrated, Leather Binding

A two volume edition of the poetical works of William Cowper.

Billed as a 'New Edition, with Head and Tail-Pieces, designed by Thurston; and engraved by Nesbit, Clennel and Branston'. Illustrated with charming vignette head and tail pieces.

The Stereotype edition. 

The first volume includes poems such as 'Table Talk', 'Progress of Errour', 'Charity' and 'Ode to Peace'. Volume two contains 'The Task' in six books, 'The Faithful Bird' and 'Friendship'. 

Volume I lacks the portrait frontispiece.

The works of the poet described as "the best modern poet" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Condition

In full calf bindings, with gilt detailing to back strips. Front and rear joints of volume I, and head of front joint of volume II starting. Front board of volume I slightly tender, with remaining volumes firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, with the odd handling mark. Otherwise clean and bright. Lacking the frontispiece to volume I.
