First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The first edition of volume II only of this work, which extended to seventeen volumes between 1808 and 1814.

Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and ten engraved plates. Collated, complete.

This volume offers accounts of travels in England and Scotland, with a focus on the west of England, Darbyshire, the isle of Wight, the isle of Man, and the Scilly isles.

With a bookplate to the front pastedown, and an advertisement leaf to the rear.

Author John Pinkerton (1758-1826) was a Scottish antiquarian, historian and author who also did extensive work in cartography.

Condition

In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards, and morocco and gilt onlay to centre of boards. Light rubbing to joints and board perimeters. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright if a touch age toned, with the odd spot. Instances of foxing to plate perimeters, and leaves facing plates.
