1906 The Story of the Amulet
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
In this charming first edition, first impression, the Psammead advises the children to purchase an ancient Egyptian amulet, which serves as a portal to the past.
Gore Vidal described the work as 'a time machine story, only the device is not a machine but an Egyptian amulet whose other half is lost in the past. By saying certain powerful words, the amulet becomes a gate through which the children are able to visit the past or future'. He termed it 'a story of considerable beauty'.
With forty-eight full page and vignette illustrations from popular illustrator of children's works, H. R. Millar. Collated, complete.
From political activist and children's writer Edith Nesbit, author of such novels as 'The Railway Children' and 'Five Children and It'.
With eight pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.
